Iranian readers to enjoy “Palace Walk”

TEHRAN,Aug.24(MNA)-- The Persian version of “Palace Walk” by the Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz is ready for publication in Iran. Reza Marashipur has translated the book into Persian, which will be released by Nilufar Publications. The book is the first volume of Mahfouz’s Cairo Trilogy, which was originally published in Egypt in 1956 with the title Bayn al-Qasrayn (which literally means “Between the Two Palaces” in Arabic). “Palace of Desire” (1957) and “Sugar Street” (1957) are two other installments of Mahfouz’s Cairo Trilogy. The titles of all are taken from actual streets in Cairo, the city of Mahfouz's childhood and youth. The book tries to challenge the predominant culture of the third world, Marashipur told on Thursday. “The translation of the book was a difficult task, however I will translate two other parts of the trilogy if I get positive feedback from my readers,” he added. The Arabic title of the book, which is set in Cairo during and just after World War I, highlights the cultural and political transition Egypt experienced at that time.
