Iranian sculptor recreating Shahnameh legends in new collection

TEHRAN,Nov.10(MNA) – Iranian sculptor Hamid Kangarani Farahani is working on a bronze and stone collection of statues inspired by legends from the Persian poet Ferdowsi’s magnum opus Shahnameh. “I chose Shahnameh because of its timelessness and the significant status it enjoys in Persian culture and history,” Kangarani told on Saturday. “I thought I could help narrate part of the history of my country to the younger generation through statues,” he added. “So far I have made the mythical hero Kaveh (who went into the battle with the evil ruler Zahhak)”, he said, adding that he would hold an exhibition of his new works after the entire collection is complete, which he expects will be by next year. Kangarani added that he is also working on the statue of Professor Rahim Rahmanzadeh, the pioneer of the artificial joint replacement surgery and modern fracture treatment in Germany, “His statue will be completed within the next 2 or 3 months and is due to be installed in Berlin”. Kangarani has so far made life-size wax effigies of prominent Iranian figures such as actors Ali Nasirian and Ezzatollah Entezami, graphic designer Morteza Momayyez, and master of miniature Mahmud Farshchian. His works are kept in many Iranian and foreign collections.
