Iran's envoy discusses Afghanistan affairs with Uzbek, German officials

Tehran, Sept 28, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Ministry's special assistant for Afghanistan affairs Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian in separate phone calls with his Uzbek and German counterparts discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, especially Afghanistan. The three officials reviewed the latest developments in Afghanistan, as well as intra-Afghan peace talks. Referring to the importance of the Uzbek president's idea of the need for the United Nations to pay more attention to Afghanistan issues and establishing a proportionate mechanism for it was welcomed during talks with the Uzbek side. In related remarks earlier this month, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced Iran's readiness for any assistance to Peace Process in Afghanistan. In a telephone talk with Afghanistan's acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Zarif discussed the latest situation of Afghan parties in the framework of the peace process, the role of neighboring countries in it, as well as issues of mutual interest. Expressing satisfaction with the holding of talks among the Afghan parties, the Iranian foreign minister stressed the Islamic Republic's readiness for any assistance to the peace process in Afghanistan.
