Iran's UN envoy: US policy in Iraq failed

New York, Sept 22, IRNA - Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations in response to the 'deviant' remarks of his US counterpart at the United Nations Security Council's session on Palestine said that allegations from the US ambassador about Iran are indicative of failure of Washington policies in Iraq Speaking in an interview on Friday with the Iranian reporters and answering the question why the United States took on the role of Iran in the region at a Palestinian meeting, Gholamali Khoshroo said that the 14 members of the Security Council at the Thursday meeting which was devoted to the Palestinian and Middle Eastern issues, condemned the Israeli actions, and the representative of the UN secretary general also reported on the deteriorating situation in the occupied territories. Iran's envoy to the United Nations continued, 'Only representative of the United States expressed angrily that the Middle East issue was not Palestine and Israel, but Iran, and we should take Iran's intervention in Iraq.' He added, 'This was a completely deviant issue based on the failure of US policies in Iraq. It is interesting that the incumbent president of the United States has repeatedly called the American intervention in Iraq the biggest historical mistake of the United States and that the wars have caused devastation and terrorism in the region. He stated, 'The American representative, awkwardly and by forgetting history, regards the Middle East as a problem of Iran, but Iran is a good friend of the Iraqi people and has been fighting along with Iraqi people against ISIL and al-Qaeda terrorists and calling for the stability, security, independence and territorial integrity of Iraq.' Iran's envoy to the United Nations emphasized that Iran tries to be a good neighbor for Iraq, but this is Washington that has caused all the destruction in Iraq and the Middle East with military intervention in Iraq. 'The United States had two goals: to distract the minds from Palestinians, which, thankfully, all the members of the council spoke about Palestine and the plight of the people of Palestine, and the second question was to target Iran, which no one of the members talked about Iran,' he stated. He noted, 'Everyone realized that this American blame game was nothing but a cover for the failure of the US's aggressive policies in the region.'
