Iranshahr Theater Complex holds “Dinner with Friends”

TEHRAN,May 29(MNA) – A troupe led by Iranian actress/director Aida Keykhaii has begun performing American playwright Donald Margulies’ “Dinner with Friends” at Hall No. 1 of the Iranshahr Theater Complex. Theater scholar Farindokht Zahedi along with stage artists Reza Fayyazi, Setareh Eskandari and Qasem Zare attended the opening performance of the play on Monday. The play was translated into Persian by Zohreh Javaheri, and director Mohammad Yaqubi modified some parts of the play for its premiere in Iran, Keykhaii said in a press conference on Sunday. The play deals with two couples who have been close for a long time, but now one couple is going through a divorce. Throughout the play, relationships are questioned and reorganized. “Dinner with Friends” premiered at the 1998 Humana Festival of New American Plays, opened Off-Broadway in New York on November 4, 1999, and received the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Niki Karimi, Behnaz Jafari, Ahmad Saatchian and Amir-Reza Delavari star in the play. The play will go on stage for two months at the theater located on Musavi St, off Enqelab Ave.
