Iraqi Education Min. welcomes ties with Sharif Univ.

TEHRAN, Feb. 23 (MNA) – Iraqi Minister of Education has visited Sharif University of Technology today and stressed the need to boost scientific interactions between the two countries’ top universities. Hussain al-Shahristani heading a high delegation visited Iran’s Sharif University of Technology on Saturday and met with the rector Mahmoud Fotouhi. While expressing his pleasure over visiting Sharif University of Technology, Dr. al-Shahristani maintained the two countries must seek ways to facilitate student admissions. He also stressed the need for a joint conference as a starting point for extensive cooperation between Sharif University and various universities in Iraq. SUT’s rector Mahmoud Fotouhi noted the university was fully prepared to hold various joint programs and conferences with Iraq. He also expressed hope joint areas of cooperation in science and technology would be provided for the two countries. According to Fotouhi, each year 90 percent of Iran’s national entrance examination and Olympiad top students are admitted to SUT, which shows the supremacy of this university among other universities in the country. Sharif University of Technology’s is a public research university, known traditionally to be the first choice of top ranked Iranian high school and university students in engineering and physical sciences. In the 2013 Academic Ranking of World Universities Engineering/Technology and Computer Sciences rankings, SUT was ranked 5th in the Middle East. It is in the top 301-350 universities in the world and 37th in Asia in the 2014-15 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. SUT also ranked 1st in the Middle East, 6th in Asia, and 27th in the world in Times Higher Education's top 100 universities under 50.
