Iraqi Foreign Minister to Visit Turkey Today

BAGHDAD / NINA / Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari starts an official visit to Turkey in response to the invitation of his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu. Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a press statement: "The visit aims to normalize relations between Iraq and Turkish after a period of political and diplomatic tensions between the two countries, and put them on the right track to serve the interests of the two neighboring countries and peoples." According to the statement, Zebari is scheduled to meet with Turkish leaders to discuss ways of activating the bilateral relations. It is worth mentioning that chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Turkish Parliament Vulcan Boscar had visited Baghdad and met with Parliament Speaker, Osama al-Nujaifi, Deputy Prime Minister Hussain al-Shahristani and Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari. He also conveyed an invitation to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki from his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Turkey. He pointed out that " Turkey respects the will of the Iraqis and stresses that they are responsible for their internal affairs, and Ankara is willing to develop the historical relations with Baghdad in all fields, expressing the hope that Maliki's visit to Turkey presents a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations and overcome all obstacles to the development of these relations in the past period.
