BAGHDAD / NINA / House Speaker, Osama AL-Nujaifi said in his speech in the International Day of Non-Violence, organized by the parliamentary Commission of Human Rights with cooperation with the UN mission in Iraq "Ten years passed in Iraq and we still seek peace, and everyone knows that peace would not be achieved only by togetherness to save the lives of innocent people who are fighting every day without deterrent intelligence or security measures." He added: "Iraq lived in a wave of increasing violence, by which the UN data showed that the number of victims in the past two months reached 1800 people as a result of security breaches in most of Iraq's provinces". Nujaifi said that " over seven decades, we still live in a world torn by conflicts , even when we declare our desire for peace and hatred of war ," noting that " the Charter of the United Nations calls us to unite our strengths to maintain international peace and security . The first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reminds us that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Nujaifi concluded : "The first years of the third millennium was full of events, and the Peoples chose the dignity of peaceful protest against authoritarian rule, demanding their rights, and changed their regimes by revolutions that revealed achieving democracy and peace. " For his part, the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Nikolai Mladinov, confirmed the support of the UN mission team in Iraq / UNAMI / for the political process in Iraq. Mladinov called the political blocs to reach a consensus on the election law, hoping to hold elections on schedule to achieve what the Iraqis aspired.
