Iraqi Minister of Environment Represents Asia-Pacific At The International Diplomatic Conference To Approve The Mercury Convention

BAGHDAD / Nina / The Iraqi Ministry of Environment announced the nomination of the Minister of Environment, Sargon Lazar Slayoa to represent Asia and Pacific in the Diplomatic Conference for the Adoption of mercury convention. A statement for the ministry issued on Tuesday 8, Oct : "The delegations participating in the preparatory meeting of the Diplomatic Conference for the Adoption of the Mercury Convention nominated the Iraq Minister of Environment, Sargon Lazar Slayoa to represent the continent of Asia and the Pacific beside the Japan Minister of the Environment in the diplomat meeting to adopt mercury convention ," pointing out that " the Minister headed the Iraqi delegation for the meetings held in Kumumoto in Japan , where he was chosen to represent the Asia- Pacific region in the ministerial office of the diplomatic Conference for the Adoption of the multilateral Convention to ban mercury , which is called Minamata Convention " . It is worth mentioning that nearly seven thousand Iraqi citizen had suffered from the damage of toxic and dangerous of mercury in the seventies of the last century , when the former regime imported tons of wheat contaminated with mercury and converted it into flour, which was consumed in the domestic market, without revealing this serious crime through the media that was wholly owned by the former regime ./ End
