IRCS Sends Five Assessment Teams To Quake-hit Areas To Coordinate Rescue Operations

Tehran, April 10, IRNA – Head of Aid and Relief Operations at the Iranian Red Crescent Society Mahmoud Mozaffar said on Tuesday that five assessment teams have been sent to quake hit areas in Bushehr province to coordinate rescue operations. Relief workers were sent to trouble spots to help rescue operations underway by local officers, he said. Two helicopters from Fars and Khuzestan provinces airlifted required facilities for the rescue teams in Bushehr, he said. The related news will be made public as soon as possible, he said. A devastating earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale ruined the epicenter, the city of Kaki in Bushehr province on Tuesday. According to seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake occurred at 16:22 hours local time (1252 GMT). The quake was epicentered in an area located at 28.48 degrees latitude and 51.58 degrees longitude./end
