Ireland Keen on GCC-EU Free Trade Agreement: PM

Doha, January 07 (QNA) - Ireland is working to conclude a free trade agreement between GCC states and the European Union, Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny said, pointing to the significance of this agreement to both sides. Kenny, currently on a two-day visit to Doha, made the remarks during a meeting on Tuesday in the presence of Qatari and Irish businessmen. He added that the EU did not impose new taxes on GCC petrochemical firms, noting that negotiations are underway between GCC firms and the EU in this regard. Speaking in the presence of HE Minister of Economy and Trade Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani, the Irish premier highlighted the deep ties between Qatar and Ireland, particularly in the economic field, which benefited from efforts of the joint business council, underlining the numerous investment opportunities in Doha at the disposal of Irish firms. Kenny called for an economic cooperation strategy between the two countries, especially in the fields of communications, energy, water, engineering, construction, information technology and training.
