Denpasar, Bali, March 13 (ANTARA) - Denpasar-based Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI Denpasar) and Okinawa University in Japan have agreed to collaborate in an effort to increase the quality of learning. The agreement was signed by ISI Denpasar Rector Prof I Wayan Rai and Okinawa University of Arts President Tsuguo Sakumoto at the ISI campus here on Tuesday. "The cooperation between the two universities of arts is expected to be profitable for both parties in improving the quality of education," Rai said. He noted that establishing the collaboration was a long process, initiated by the exploration of both universities. Rai said Tsuguo Sakumoto was in Denpasar to sign the agreement of the collaboration and a representative from ISI Denpasar was expected to visit the Okinawa University in Japan in the near future to discuss various issued related to the alliance. He added that with its international network, ISI Denpasar was also exploring an association with Swarthmore College, a private, independent, liberal arts college in the US with around 1,500 students. Today, the college is known for its rigorous intellectual character, shaped by a commitment to social responsibility and the legacy of Swarthmore`s Quaker heritage. Swarthmore is a member of the Tri-College Consortium, a cooperative arrangement among Swarthmore College, Bryn Mawr College, and Haverford College. Rai said preliminary discussions about the cooperation had been made with Prof Thomas Whitman of the Swarthmore College and the signing of the agreement was expected to be carried out soon.
