Islam Practices Moderation And Peace - PM Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) -- The Muslim community must adopt the concept of moderation and reject any element of extremism and liberalism and make Islamic values as a daily practice. Najib Razak (two left) said Islam is a religion of peace which practices the culture of peace and not a religion of violence. "It focuses on moderation..not too extreme and not too liberal. The ideology of the Islamic State (IS) is rejected because it is opposed to Islamic values, humanitarian and noble values. "In fact, during war, Muslims are forbidden against killing civilians," he said in his speech at a ceremony on instilling noble values and breaking the fast with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here, Tuesday night. Also present were his wife, Rosmah Mansor, Home Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (left) and Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar (three left). Najib also expressed his appreciation for the effort and hard work of PDRM in looking after the security and harmony which curbed any element of violence in terms of ideology in Malaysia. In fact, he said, the crime rate had dropped to 40 per cent since the national transformation policy to reduce crime rate was introduced. Najib also announced that the government had allocated 15,000 units of new houses for the police and the proposal paper on the matter would be tabled at the weekly cabinet meeting soon. During the ceremony, Najib also handed over cash contributions and aid for Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Eid al-Fitr, a holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide marking the end of Ramadan) to 108 orphans from among the PDRM family. In addition, the Prime Minister also handed over US$267,613 (RM1 million) for PDRM mosques nationwide. (photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
