Islamic Civilisation Can Collapse If Muslims Continue Abandoning Quran And Sunnah - Perak MB

IPOH (Perak, Malaysia), Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The Islamic civilisation can collapse if Muslims continue abandoning the Quran and Sunnah in their daily lives, Perak Menteri Besar (chief minister) Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilisation (WCITC) 2014 here Tuesday, Zambry said adopting a secular approach would also bring about the same impact to the Islamic civilisation. "As such, in order to revive the civilisation and regain the lost glory, we must return to the Quran and Sunnah. "Until then, the Muslim world will remain in turmoil, subjugated by their own kind and by others," he said. The menteri besar said the key outcome of the conference was a call to re-examine the essence of Islamic civilisation that was firmly rooted in the Quran and Sunnah. "It is a civilisation that highlights the importance of knowledge, morals and values, which are the key cornerstones of any civilisation for that matter. "Indeed scholars from the East and West in general are unanimous on their assessments on the rise and subsequent fall of civilisations," he said. Dr Zambry said the conference themed 'The Rise and Fall of Civilisations: Contemporary States of Muslim Affairs', was timely given the prolonged and destructive nature of the ongoing geopolitical conflicts affecting and dividing Muslims and Muslim countries all over the world. "From Middle East to the West, to Africa over to Asia, we hear, we read and witness Muslims either at war with each other or with their own countries, facing persecution, given to piracy, kidnapping or are starving to death in some sub-Saharan countries," he said. In addition, he said in many of these countries, Muslims had been demonised, especially by Western governments and their media, assigned and consigned to names like 'terrorists' or 'militants' and hunted down like animals. "As the consequence of 9/11, Islamophobia continues to fester in which every Muslim on this planet has been made a suspect overnight, fueled by these conflicts and fanned by the media. "Such is the most terrifying, most tragic phenomenon, the sorry state of affairs besieging and inflicting the 1.6 billion Muslims in the world today. "In a nutshell, the affairs of Muslims all over the world is in such an awful mess that we can hardly fathom the situation on the ground as to who is fighting whom, how, where, when and why?" the menteri besar said. Meanwhile, Deputy Rector of Kolej Universiti Islam Sultan Azlan Shah (KUISAS), Prof Dr Wan Sabri Wan Yusof said the conference, which was organised by the college and participated by local and foreign scholars, had come out with 18 resolutions. "Among the resolutions are to emphasise that the development of technology and science today should be benefitted by Muslims in order to advance and to be more competitive without neglecting social aspects, philosophy, literature values and civilisation. "To note that the advancement of the culture of seeking knowledge needs to be balanced with religious and moral knowledge, so that Muslim community will not only rely on worldly materials and resources, as in the end they will only lead Muslims to dire problems. "And to recognise that civilisation can be restored by returning to the authentic Islamic way of life, which stresses on the principles of justice and is able to shape society peacefully and harmoniously," he added. -- BERNAMA
