Italy Can Serve As A Good Partner For Iran In Anti-drug Campaign

Tehran, Oct 14, IRNA – Italy can serve as good partner for Iran in anti-drug fighting, Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police Anti-Drug Trafficking Squad Brigadier-General Ali Moayedi said on Sunday. He told IRNA after meeting with head of Italian National Committee for Fighting Drugs that the international campaign against drug-trafficking requires cooperation among different governments and their police forces specialized in the field. Moayedi said that Italian police have many victims killed in campaign against drug smuggling, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran is willing to share its experience with Italy and exchange intelligence about organized operations of the traffickers. “Iran boasts of much experience in the campaign against drug trafficking,” he said. Pointing to close viewpoints of the two governments in the field, Moayedi said that many memorandums of understanding were signed by the two governments, but, only a small section has so far been implemented. He said that Iranian police consider itself responsible for the menace of drug addiction to the youth of either Iran or the western countries they have sense of commitment to achieve modern knowledge for the purpose of campaign against drug traffickers and are willing to develop communications with the other states. “We believe in sincere cooperation with other countries in the field away from political considerations,” Mayedi said. Fortunately, the Italian liaison officer had close cooperation with Iran in compiling road-map for the campaign against drug trafficking, he said./end
