Jahangiri appointed first vice president

Tehran, Aug 5, IRNA - President Hassan Rohani on Monday appointed Eshaq Jahangiri as his first vice president. As the first vice president, Jahangiri will have wide-ranging authorities, including chairing cabinet meeting in absence of the President as well as signing all communications, legislations, edicts, regulations and decisions of the cabinet. Jahangiri, born in 1957, was the minister of industries and mines from 1997 to 2005 under President Mohammad Khatami. Before that, he was governor of Isfahan Province. He was also a member of Parliament for two terms.
