Jail, citizenship revocation for acts of terrorism

Manama, June 27 (BNA): The Fourth Higher Criminal Court today sentenced three defendants to 15 years each and the revocation of their citizenship. The court also imposed a fine of BD200,000 on the second defendant and ordered the confiscation of the seized items, Chief of Terror Crimes Prosecution, Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi said. The suspects were found guilty of joining the so-called Saraya Al-Mukhtar terrorist group, possessing and using unlicensed weapons and explosives for terrorist purposes, detonating explosives for terrorist purposes, and raising funds for a terrorist group Investigations revealed that the second and third defendants had received their instructions, as members of the group, from the leaders who were aboard on the implementation of its agenda in Bahrain. The first defendant, who is also a member of the group, is a fugitive who lives in Iraq. He had recruited the second defendant and arranged for the second defendant to meet the group's leaders outside Bahrain. He also assigned the second defendant to recruit more people to the group. Investigation also revealed that the second and third defendants had provided explosives and logistic support for the group's members during their terrorist operations targeting policemen in various areas of Bahrain. The two defendants had also placed improvised explosive devices to target policemen. The second defendant had received a firearm from the group leaders. The Public Prosecution relied in substantiating the charges on testimonies from evidence witnesses, the confessions of the suspects and forensic reports. It referred two defendants to the Fourth High Criminal Court and ordered to issue an arrest warrant against the defendants still at large. The case was deliberated at the court in the presence of the defence lawyers. The defendants were provided with all legal guarantees.
