Jailed Thai doctor for killing wife released

BANGKOK, August 4 (TNA) - A Thai doctor who was jailed for killing his wife and concealing her body a decade ago has been released from a prison after serving 10 years and seven months. Ayuth Sinthopphan, Director of the Bang Kwang Central Prison in Bangkok, told journalists on Monday that the Thai doctor, Dr. Wisut Boonyakasemsanti, was released earlier in the day because he met parole criteria. Ayuth noted that the parole had been approved by the parole boards of his prison and the Corrections Department, before it was forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for its final approval. According to the prison's director, Dr. Wisut had behaved well during his imprisonment by helping treat patients at the prison. Dr. Wisut, who was jailed for killing his wife, Dr. Passaporn Boonyakasemsanti, and chopping her body into parts for concealing, had served 10 years, seven months and 25 days in jail, during which he received pardons at times. His remaining jail term is three years, one month and 20 days; so, he meets the criteria for parole, which is eligible for good inmates whose remaining terms are less than five years. During the parole, Dr. Wisut will be under the supervision of the Department of Probation and he must report to the department and meet its behavioral conditions; otherwise, he will return to jail. His actual jail term will end on September 24, 2017. The prison's director revealed that he had talked with Dr. Wisut, who said, without elaboration, that he wanted to serve the society. (TNA)
