Jakarta Citizen Hope MRT Can Solve Trafic Congestion

Jakarta, April 15 (Antara) - Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta is much awaited by the Jakarta citizens as a solution to Jakarta `s congestion due to the use of private vehicles in the region. "In any form, MRT is awaited because the public is already tired of the congestion," pointed out Secretary General of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) Ellen Sophie Wulan Tangkudung on Tuesday. According to her, people who always use private vehicle will switch to mass transportation as long as the mass transportation facilities, which are being provided, are adequate, safe, and convenient. She pointed out that other mass transportation, such as electric trains (KRL), is often inconvenient for the user due to overcrowding, thus rendering it reluctant to use. As for the public transportation, TransJakarta is considered good, even though the scheduled departure in several routes is not guaranteed. She added that it will be better if mass transportation such as MRT can be integrated well with other public transportation. Jakarta Provincial Government has an important role to support mass transportation integration, she added. PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta reportedly will begin the excavation underground to build a subway line in the corridors of Bundaran Hotel Indonesia through Sarinah, Central Jakarta. "This is a large -scale of work. During the construction period, we will have to change lanes, including the transfer lanes of TransJakarta from the east side to the west side or vice versa," pointed out Director of MRT Jakarta Dono Boestami, during a press conference in Jakarta, on Friday (4/4). Boestami added that he has coordinated with the Department of Transportation and Traffic Directorate Jakarta Police to link the implementation of traffic engineering related to the enforcement of traffic engineering. Earlier, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo asked for the support of the Central Government to participate in the realization of the construction of mass transportation (mass rapid transit / MRT); reservoir in Megamendung, Bogor; and waste water management. "It`s only about the implementation. MRT and the reservoir will resolve Jakarta`s problems, and will need the support and assistance of the Central Government," Joko Widodo reiterated during the Council of Jakarta Provincial Planning and Development (Musrenbang) at City Hall, Jakarta, on Tuesday (25/3).
