Jakarta Drafting Government Regulation On Land Clearing

Jakarta, Nov 25 (Antara) - The Jakarta city administration is drafting a governor regulation on land clearing for the construction of waterway diversion of the Ciliwung river. "Currently the regional public works service cooperates with city Law Bureau to prepare the draft regulation ," head of the Jakarta Public Works service Agus Priyono said here on Tuesday. Agus said almost in every development project the city administration is hampered by problem over land clearing, adding a regulation , therefore, is needed. . "The governor regulation is expected to serve as a legal umbrella and reference for the construction of the waterway diversion from the Ciliwung river," he said. However, he said he could not yet say when the governor regulation would be effective. Construction of the Ciliwung waterway diversion is expected to reduce the threat of flooding in the coming rainy season. Every year in rainy season Jakarta is hit by flooding either by the rain water or floods of water rolling down from the mountainous neighboring district of Bogor. Part of Jakarta are already covered by flood water lately forcing people to abandon their houses "We could work immediately to build the waterway diversion and we could reduce the threat of flooding if the bill on land clearing has been passed into law ," Agus said. The Ciliwung river waterway diversion project will be carried out by the public works ministry and the public housing ministry. The Ciliwung river waterway diversion project will extend along the river in the city. In the project, the city administration is responsible for land clearing and paying compensation for the people that have to be evicted .
