Jakarta To Host New Cities Summit In June 2015

Jakarta, Nov 6 (Antara) - Jakarta will play host to the New Cities Summit 2015 themed "Seizing the Urban Moment: Cities at the Heart of Growth and Development" on June 9-11. The fourth edition of the New Cities Summit will be organized by the New Cities Foundation and the City of Jakarta, according to a statement issued by PR NewsWire here on Thursday. "We are excited to be coming to Asia for our next big global conversation on cities. This is truly Jakarta`s moment and Indonesia`s moment," John Rossant, the founder and chairman of the New Cities Foundation, noted in a press statement. "We proudly invite all New Cities Summit delegates to meet in Jakarta in 2015. The people of Jakarta and I look forward to welcoming you in 2015," remarked Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, the acting governor of Jakarta. The next three decades will bear witness to the largest increase in the world`s urban population in human history. By mid-century, 6.5 billion people will reside in cities, up from 4 billion today. This unprecedented demographic shift is leading to a surge in investments in urban services and infrastructure on a scale never seen before. In tandem, new technologies are empowering individuals and companies to unravel novel solutions to perennial urban challenges. Together, these changes are paving the path to an extraordinary moment of opportunity to improve the lives for the future generations worldwide. Asian cities are at the center of this urban moment. The population of greater Jakarta will burgeon from about 27 million today to well over 40 million by 2050. This vast and diverse metropolis faces several important challenges as it manages its rapid demographic and economic growth, thus making it an ideal location for the New Cities Summit 2015. The New Cities Summit is the premier global leadership event on the future of cities, drawing 800 global thought leaders. The summit was earlier held in Paris, Sao Paulo, and Dallas.
