Japan, China, S. Korea Agree to Promote Disaster Risk Reduction

Tokyo, Oct. 28 (Jiji Press)--Japanese, Chinese and South Korean ministers in charge of disaster control on Wednesday agreed to promote disaster risk reduction measures adopted at a U.N. conference in the northeastern Japan city of Sendai in March. The ministers, meeting in Tokyo, discussed ways to bolster cooperation for disaster prevention and a response to recent flooding in Japan. It was the fourth such meeting since 2009. Japan aims to further strengthen cooperation with China and South Korea to promote the disaster risk prevention measures adopted at the Sendai meeting, in Asia in particular, Taro Kono, Japanese minister for disaster management, said at a press conference after the meeting. Kono added that Japan will actively share information on its disaster experiences with other countries. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in China in 2017. END
