Japan Ends On-Site Probe into Asiana Jet Accident

Mihara, Hiroshima Pref., April 18 (Jiji Press)--Japanese government investigators on Saturday finished their on-site probe into the recent crash landing by an Asiana Airlines passenger jet in Hiroshima Airport. The team of aircraft accident investigators at the Japan Transport Safety Board will analyze the material gathered on the field after going back to Tokyo. "Given the seriousness (of the accident), it will without doubt take more than a year" to finish a report on the investigation, team leader Kazuo Hino told reporters at the airport in the western Japan city of Mihara. "It may even take about two years." The team started the on-site investigation on Wednesday, the day after the accident. The team worked with investigators of Airbus SAS, the manufacturer of the jet, and BEA, France's air accident investigation agency. END
