Japan to Isolate People with MERS-Suspected High Fever

Tokyo, June 9 (Jiji Press)--Japan's health ministry decided Tuesday to isolate at designated hospitals people who developed high fevers after having physical contacts with confirmed carries of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, virus. Specifically, if the body temperatures of people who have contacted with those infected with the virus rise to 38 degrees Celsius or higher, they will be hospitalized at some 340 designated institutions across the country and isolated there. The ministry also decided to monitor health conditions of those who contacted with MERS carriers but have not developed any symptoms for up to two weeks while asking them to refrain from going out, officials said. If MERS infection is confirmed at a designated hospital, treatment will be provided at the same hospital, they said, adding if a person is tested MERS virus positive, the infection will be made to the public.
