Japan, S. Korea, U.S. Vow Cooperation for N. Korea Sanctions

Tokyo, Feb. 7 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida agreed with his South Korean and U.S. counterparts on Sunday that their countries will cooperate closely to ensure that the U.N. Security Council adopts a resolution for powerful sanctions on North Korea swiftly. In his separate phone talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Kishida said North Korea's missile launch earlier in the day is totally unacceptable as it threatens the peace and safety of Asia and the international community. Yun and Kerry said the Security Council needs to send out a powerful message. Kishida also told them that Japan will impose its own sanctions on Pyongyang at an early date. Both Yun and Kerry showed their understanding. The ministers agreed to promote trilateral security cooperation among Japan, South Korea and the United States. Kishida also sought cooperation from French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond in their separate phone talks for a Security Council resolution for sanctions on North Korea. Fabius told Kishida that Paris supports Tokyo's stance on the matter. Lavrov said Moscow is ready to work together with Tokyo. END
