Japan, Singapore to Team Up in Digital Technology, Other Areas

Tokyo, Oct. 29 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and his Singaporean counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong, agreed on Thursday that their countries will work together in the fields of digital technologies and cross-border travel amid the spread of novel coronavirus infections. Talking over the phone, Suga and Lee also confirmed the two countries' collaboration over issues in the South China Sea and North Korea's abductions of Japanese nationals decades ago. Japan hopes to cooperate with Singapore in measures to reinvigorate travel, among other areas, Suga told Lee, stressing that making the economy resilient to crises through the utilization of digital technologies and enhancement of the supply chains is a major challenge. In response, Lee said his country is keen to work with Japan on digital economy, travel and trade. Suga said that Japan will continue efforts to build a free and open Indo-Pacific region while teaming up with Singapore, which attaches importance to freedom of navigation and overflight, and international law.
