Japan sponsors repair of Thailand's Motorway No.9

BANGKOK, September 21 (TNA) - The Japanese government, through Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA, has granted a total of 3.266 billion yen, to finance Thailand's repair of Motorway No. 9 or the Eastern Ring Road, which was damaged by the country's massive flooding in late 2011. Thai Transport Minister Chadchar tSittipunt and Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Shigekazu Sato jointly presided over a ceremony on launching the repair of the Motorway No. 9, also known as Kanchanaphisek Road, this morning (Sept 21). JICA has totally sponsored the repair of the 168-kilometre-Motorway No.9, linking Bangkok with four neighbouring, including Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Ayutthaya, conducted by the Thai Ministry of Transport's Department of Highways. The repair is scheduled to complete on December 15, 2014 and upon its completion, the Motorway No. 9 will be used in transporting goods, including those produced by industrial estates in the central Thai region.
