Japan to Study Visa Exemption for Indonesians

Sakaiminato, Tottori Pref., June 14 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government will study exempting entry visas for Indonesians in an effort to achieve its target of boosting the annual number of foreign visitors to 20 million by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Saturday. The visa exemption is included in measures to meet the target announced by Abe during his visit to Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture, western Japan. The government has found that visa exemptions for Thais and Malaysians were effective to let Japan see 10 million foreign visitors for the first time in 2013. The government also plans to double the number of duty-free shops to 10,000 by 2020 and promote local specialty goods at the shops. END
