Japan supports earthquake-resistant designs in Thailand

BANGKOK, February 8 (TNA) - The Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) organizes an Earthquake-resistant Design Workshop” with the Japanese Institute of Architects (JIA), which is experienced in disaster responses, as Japan is an earthquake-prone nation. ASA President Pichai Wongwaisayawan told journalists of the information, saying that the workshop is held in Bangkok during February 8-11. Pichai also encouraged the Thai government to impose rules on earthquake-resistant architecture and learn earthquake-resistant designs from JIA. Pichai noted that earthquake-resistant designs have been developed in the modern world, as well as codes of building to cope with earthquakes, while research and development (R&D) institutes have laboratories to test big structures’ tolerance to earthquakes and ASA hopes to learn those valuable experiences from Japan. Architects from the Thai government and the private sector are attending the workshop, sponsored by Schimmer Metal Standard Co. Afterwards, the participants are expected to apply knowledge to ensure public safety in Thailand, while ASA will be a center of knowledge to cope with earthquakes and disasters. (TNA)
