Japan Surveys Offshore Aquaculture Fisheries In Biak

BIAK, Papua, Sept 27 (Antara) - In cooperation with Biak Marine and Fisheries Office in Papua, Japan conducted a survey of offshore aquaculture fisheries at Anggopi area in Oridek, Biak Numfor District. Biak Marine and Fisheries Office Chief Effendi Igrissa remarked on Wednesday that the waters of Anggopi has the potential to be developed into an offshore fishing area. "Local community support of Anggopi on the development of offshore aquaculture is the capital for continued surveys conducted by Japan," Igrissa said. He noted that the development of offshore fisheries in various parts of of Indonesia is a follow up of President Joko Widodo's instruction that every fishery and water resources in the country can be fully utilized for the prosperity of the local people. Moreover, the area of Biak waters, according to him, is large enough with diverse potential of natural resources of fishery that must be optimized properly for the local people's welfare. Igrissa said the kind of technology which is being modeled for the initial development of offshore aquaculture is still awaiting continued results of the survey with Japan. "The Biak fishery department is very hopeful that the results of Japan fishery survey can be followed up with the development of waters of Anggopi as an offshore fishing center for eastern Indonesia, especially in Papua province," he said.
