Japan Tightens Law against Terrorism Funding

Tokyo, Nov. 14 (Jiji Press)--A legal revision to tighten regulations on terrorist financing passed the Diet, Japan's parliament, on Friday. The House of Councillors, the upper chamber, approved a bill to revise the law for punishing providers of funds for terrorism by a majority vote. The bill has already cleared the House of Representatives. The revised law newly penalizes the provision of goods and properties to terrorists. It also bans so-called primary supporters for terrorism from collaborating with each other and secondary supporters, or indirect supporters, from assisting primary supporters. Providers and receivers of funds for terrorism face up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to 10 million yen. END
