Japan Wants Summit-Related G-7 Financial Meeting in Sendai

Tokyo, June 23 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese government wants to hold a Group of Seven financial meeting, related to next year's G-7 summit, in Sendai in northeastern Japan, informed sources said Tuesday. The government is in the final stage of arranging the meeting of the G-7 finance ministers and central bank chiefs in the city hit by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, the sources said. By holding the high-profile ministerial meeting in Sendai, the government wants to demonstrate postdiaster reconstruction of areas affected by the disaster, the sources said. The government has decided to hold the G-7 summit in Shima, Mie Prefecture, central Japan, on May 26-27 in 2016. It has been considering picking the venues of summit-related ministerial meetings from municipalities which applied to host the annual gathering of the G-7 leaders. Sendai was among the unchosen seven summit candidate places, which also included Hiroshima and Karuizawa. END
