Japanese Arrested over Hong Kong Protests Sat.

Hong Kong, Sept. 4 (Jiji Press)--Hong Kong police arrested a Japanese man in his 40s in connection with massive protests in the region Saturday, diplomatic sources said Wednesday. The Japanese consulate-general in Hong Kong provided assistance to the man, who has already been released on bail, the sources said. It is unclear what suspicion led to his arrest. More than 1,000 people have been arrested since June, when massive protests began in Hong Kong over a bill to allow extradition of suspects to mainland China. The man is the first Japanese whose arrest has been confirmed in connection with the protests. On Saturday, protesters clashed with police, and many people were injured and arrested. END
