Japanese government offers scholarships to Bahraini students

Manama, May 2 (BNA): The Embassy of Japan has called on Bahraini students who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students (postgraduate students) to apply for MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship for 2017. The Japanese Government Scholarship Programme, established in 1954, was created in order to increase mutual understanding between the people of Japan and other countries as well as to make an international contribution to the intellectual field. The scholarship benefits include air fees between Japan and Bahrain, tuition fees and a monthly allowance. Applicants for "Research Students" must be born on or after April 2, 1982, and must have completed or will complete 16 years of school education or 18 years of school education if the applicant wishes to enroll in a course in the field of medicine, dentistry or veterinary science, or pharmacy which is based on a six-year course in a department or faculty. Research Students applicants may choose one of two terms of scholarship: Two years from April 2017 to March 2019, including six months for studying the Japanese language, or one and a half years from October 2017 to March 2019, including six months for studying the Japanese language) If the Grantee enrolls in a master's course, doctoral course, or professional graduate course after arriving in Japan, regardless of the time of his arrival in Japan, the scholarship will be payable for a period necessary for him to complete his regular course in addition to a six-month Japanese language training period for those who require such training, the embassy said. For the selection of candidates, the embassy conducts a primary screening of candidates by means of submitted application documents, written examination and interviews. Afterwards, the government of Japan conducts a secondary screening based on the results of the primary screening. All requested documents related to Research Students must be submitted to the embassy by May 12. This programme has benefited 92,000 students from approximately 160 countries and regions around the world from its beginning until May 2011. Over 30 Bahraini students have been given opportunities to study at Japanese universities, in cooperation with Bahrain's Ministry of Education since 1994. Currently, four Bahraini students are studying in Japan.
