Japanese, Thai PMs to meet in Tokyo

BANGKOK, February 5 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha is scheduled to meet his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe during his upcoming official visit to Japan, scheduled for February 8-10, at the invitation of the Japanese government. Thai Government Spokesman Dr. Yongyuth Maiyalarp told a press conference in Bangkok on Thursday that the Thai and Japanese prime ministers will discuss issues on bilateral ties and cooperation during their meeting in Tokyo. The spokesman stated, during the three-day stay in Tokyo, Prime Minister General Prayut and his wife are also scheduled to be granted an audience with Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito. According to the spokesman, the Thai prime minister is also scheduled to meet many delegations from the Japanese business sector, including leading members of the Japanese-Thai Parliament friendship group, as well as executives of the Japanese Business Federation, or Keidanren, major economic organisations from Kansai, Honda, Mitsui and Misubishi Motors companies. According to the spokesman, the Thai prime minister's upcoming trip to Japan is aimed mainly to further strengthen and develop bilateral economic relations between Bangkok and Tokyo, including those on electric rail and Dawei special economic zone development projects, while the Thai prime minister also plans to invite more Japanese business operators to invest in special border economic zones in Thailand and to promote more Thai exports to Japan.
