Japanese volunteer arrives in eastern Turkey to accomplish mission of their friend

VAN (A.A) - December 20, 2011 - A Japanese volunteer has arrived in the eastern Turkish quake-hit province of Van to accomplish the mission of another Japanese relief team member who died in a powerful earthquake in November. Kyoto Onishi of a Japanese search and rescue organization will join efforts to heal the wounds after two earthquakes that hist Van in October and November, and to go on with the mission of Japanese doctor Atsushi Miyazaki, who lost his life in the powerful earthquake on November 9. "We have never thought of ending relief efforts, and a group of volunteers including Miyoki Konnai, who was pulled alive from the rubble (after November's earthquake), will arrive in Van in ten days to accomplish Dr. Miyazaki's mission," Onishi told AA correspondent.  Relief teams rescued Miyuki Konnai five hours after the 5.6-magnitude earthquake that hit Van on November 9. Atsushi Miyazaki was found under rubble of a collapsed building 13 hours after the earthquake.  Miyazaki was immediately taken to the Van Teaching Hospital after getting rescued and received heart massage both on site of the rubble and at the hospital. Despite the efforts of medical officials, Miyazaki passed away. On October 23, Van had been hit by an earthquake measuring 7.2 on Richter scale. 601 people were killed and 4,152 others were wounded in the quake. 188 people were pulled alive out of the debris. The two earthquake killed 644 people. 252 people were rescued.
