Japan's Momoi Becomes World's Oldest Man

New York, June 9 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Sakari Momoi is now believed to be the world's oldest man, as Alexander Imich, who turned 111 just one day earlier than Momoi on Feb. 4, died in New York on Sunday, it was learned Monday. Imich, a Polish-born psychic researcher born in 1903, died Sunday morning at a senior residence in Manhattan, after he topped the California-based Gerontology Research Group's list of the world's supercentenarians, aged at least 110, on April 24, The New York Times reported in its online edition. With his death, Momoi, a resident of the city of Saitama, north of Tokyo, became the oldest validated living man, according to the list. Momoi has been in a Tokyo hospital. But he does not have any particular health problem and is able to ingest food and speak clearly, a Saitama municipal welfare official said. END
