Jasoor Workshop Mulls Impact of Sports on Tourism

Doha, April 22 (QNA) - A workshop assessing impact of major sports events on Qatar's tourism and hospitality sector started here Wednesday. Jasoor Institute and Qatar Tourism Authority are jointly hosting the workshop titlted 'Implications of Mega Events on Tourism and Hospitality'. This is Jasoor Institute's second workshop this week, following the first titled 'Sports Tourism - A Comprehensive Overview' held at the Aspire Academy Tuesday. Over the last few decades, various sports associations working under the aegis of Qatar Olympic Committee have organised major football, tennis, golf, handball, volleyball tournaments at regional, and international levels. Next on the Qatar's sports calendar are the IAAF World Athletics Championships in 2019, the 2020 Expo and FIFA World Cup in 2022. The workshop mulls the impact of hosting such large scale international sports events and explores planning, opportunities, associated risks and sustainable growth, organisers said today. Delegates from hospitality, tourism industry, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar Tourism Authority, Qatar Football Association, Aspire, College Of North Atlantic Qatar, Georgetown University, Qatar University, and local sports clubs are attending this workshop. Jasoor Institute is part of Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy. It provides professional training and education for sports and events industries in the MENA region. (QNA)
