JETRO to Focus on 10 Export Projects for Local Specialties

Tokyo, May 27 (Jiji Press)--The Japan External Trade Organization said Tuesday that it will intensively support 10 export projects for local specialties. The specialties include fishery products at Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market, black beans in Tanba, Hyogo Prefecture, bonsai trees in Kagawa Prefecture and koi carp in Niigata Prefecture. In the project involving the Tsukiji market, fishery products will be exported to Southeast Asian nations. Niigata's koi will go to the United Arab Emirates. Also among the 10 projects is one aiming to export processed marine products from the northeastern prefecture of Miyagi. JETRO will support the project as part of its efforts to help reconstruct areas hit by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. JETRO chose the 10 projects because they are feasible and sustainable. JETRO Chairman Hiroyuki Ishige said he hopes the projects will contribute to the revitalization of regional economies. END
