Jivar to perform at Iraqi festival

TEHRAN,Aug.1(MNA) – Jivar, an Iranian Kurdish music ensemble, will be giving performances at a culture festival in Ranya, a town near Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan in August 20 and 21. Each year, several ethnic groups from different countries gather in this region to give their performances, the leader of the ensemble Iranian Kurdish singer Jivar Sheikholeslami said in a press release on Wednesday. The band will be performing maqami music, along with several duets and solos composed by Ali Najafpur, she added. In Islamic music, a maqam is a specific musical scale combined with characteristic melodic elements or motifs, played following traditional formats, which together form a complete system for the melodic and tonal structure of a musical performance. Moreover, the ensemble is scheduled to perform their latest productions in a two-day concert exclusively for women scheduled to be held in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on October 24 and 25.
