Jokowi Expected To Play Vital Role In Int'l Arena

Jakarta, Sept 12 (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed hope that President-elect Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, will enhance Indonesia`s role in the international arena. "We are responsible for making the necessary preparations and agenda on international activities that will be required and implemented by the next president, and we hope, he will do so," President Yudhoyono stated at his office here on Thursday. The president was optimistic that Jokowi will promote the nation`s role at numerous international meetings and attend summits that Indonesia had regularly participated in since the past decade. Yudhoyono noted that several weeks after Jokowi`s inauguration as president, he will attend numerous regional and international meetings, which are in harmony with Indonesia`s role in international politics and global cooperation. "There are at least 12 summits ahead for Jokowi to attend," the president noted, adding that they are APEC Summit in Beijing on November 10-11, 2014; ASEAN Summit, together with ASEAN-UN Summit, ASEAN-China Summit, ASEAN-US Summit, ASEAN-Australia Summit, and East Asia Summit in Myanmar on November 12-13, 2014; G-20 Summit in Australia on November 15-16, 2014; then D-8 in Turkey and G-15 in Sri Lanka, and finally ASEAN-South Korea Summit at the end of the year. Therefore, Yudhoyono remarked that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made the necessary preparations for these summits and has submitted the required details to Jokowi.
