Junta to continue peace talks with insurgents in Thai far South

BANGKOK, July 2 (TNA) - The army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will carry on negotiations with insurgents to restore peace in the violence-plagued Thai far South. Colonel Pramote Phrom-in, Spokesman of the southern outpost of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), announced the NCPO's policy at the Sirindhorn Camp in Pattani Province on Wednesday. Colonel Pramote noted, however, that the NCPO is only changing negotiation forms and methods with insurgent, as well as ways of cooperation with neighboring Malaysia. In general, the spokesman acknowledged, the junta requires that the peace talks with insurgents will be based on the Thai Constitution and the fact that Thailand is never be separated. The spokesman said that the NCPO's working group, headed by Thai Deputy Army chief and NCPO Secretary General General Udomdet Sitabutr, to solve far South problems has already determined some topics for future peace talks. According to the spokesman, the junta is also working out a roadmap to restore peace in the southern Thai border region, focused on comprehensive public participation and local negotiations to create mutual trust.
