Justice Minister Ergun meets SG of Council of Europe

STRASBOURG (A.A) - Turkey and the Council of Europe will cooperate in the field of expression and media freedom. Turkish Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin met with Thorbjorn Jagland, secretary general of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg on Wednesday. Following Ergin's meeting with Jagland, Council of Europe officials told the AA that they would cooperate with Turkey in the areas of expression and media freedom. Turkish and Council of Europe officials will study laws on expression and media freedom in member countries and the implementation of those laws and will jointly prepare a report. Efforts will be made so that Turkish reforms in such fields will be at Council of Europe standards. On Thursday, Ergin will visit the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Ergin will also meet members of the Venice Commission on Thursday. Minister Ergin will meet the European Ombudsman on Friday and later depart from Strasbourg.
