Kalimantan To Have High Number Of Hotspots Until October

Jakarta, Sept 26 (Antara) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (PNPB) has predicted that the number of Kalimantan`s hotspots will still be high until October 2014 so that mitigation still has to be carried out optimally. "Based on hotspot pattern that has been taking place since 2006 until this year, it is predicted that Kalimantan areas will still experience a high number of hotspots up to October 2014," Head of PNPB`s Information Data Center and Public Relations Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said here on Friday. He said that the pattern of hotspots in Sumatra showed an increase during the mid June - October period or in a six month period. Meanwhile the hotspot pattern in Kalimantan showed that it increased during the period of August and October, or in a three-month period. "This means that Kalimantan will still have a high number of hotspots up to October," he added. Based on the Modis Satellite monitoring on Thursday, the number of hotspots still increased, particularly in Central Kalimantan areas with 1,041 hotspots. In South Kalimantan there were 261 hotspots, East Kalimantan 189 and West Kalimantan 40 hotspots. The number of hotspots detected in Sumatra, particularly in South Sumatra, was 223, Lampung 26, Jambi 5 and Riau 2 hotspots. "Efforts to put out hotspots still have to continuously be made out in Sumatra and Kalimantan," Sutopo said.
