Katara Signs Agreement with International Folklore Organization

Doha, May 04 (QNA) - The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) signed Sunday a cooperation agreement with the regional office of the International Organization of Folk Art in Bahrain to hold cultural events. In a statement released today, Katara General Manager Khalid Al Sulaiti said that the agreement reflected Katara's commitment to diversify its cultural events to adhere to different tastes. Based on the agreement, Katara will hold a series of folklore-related events for six months starting from October 2014 and ending in March 2015. The events will take place on Monday and Tuesday of each week, during which folklore groups from 25 countries will perform. Al Sulaiti said that Katara seeks to enhance Qatar's cultural role through cultural exchange and cooperation with other countries. He added that doing live folklore shows is a way to protect the Qatari popular folklore. With members from more than 184 countries, The International Organization of Folk Art is part of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It organizes a range of events including exhibitions and tours as well as encouraging international exchanges between folk art groups and ensembles worldwide. (QNA)
