Kazakhstan to end reconstruction of lead plant in 2012

Kazakhstan, Astana, Feb. 11 / Trend T.Nurmagambetov / Completion of reconstruction of lead plant in Kazakhstan at Ust-Kamenogor ground is planned in 2012. Some $120 million have been allocated for this, vice president of Kazzinc Turarbek Azekenov told Trend on Saturday. "Large investment in development of Ridder mining complex, where our company brought jointly with Bukhtarmin hydro power plant electric line with power of 110 KW will continue in 2012," Mr Azekenov said. He also said the copper smeltery reached 75 per cent of capacity by the end of 2011 and produced over 21,500 tons of cathode copper. Forecast for 2012 is to produce 57,000 tons of cathode copper. "Some 300,000 tons of metallic zink, 100,000 tons of refined lead, 6,500 tons of gold and 235 tons of silver were produced. New metallurgy significantly amends forecast for 2012- production of lead will decrease to 30,000 tons, however production of gold, extracted through copper cycle, should increase to 200 tons, and silver - to 548 tons," Mr Azekenov said. "Kazzinc" Company is the largest enterprise, bringing together a number of ore-dressing and processing enterprises and metallurgical plants of the province. The history of lead and zinc enterprises begins from 1925. Each year new shops, new technology items were put into operation. In 1952 first lead was produced with the brand of the Ust-Kamenogorsk lead-zinc plant. Thus, the Ust-Kamenogorsk lead-zinc plant began to operate. Products of "Kazzinc" enjoy a high reputation on the London Metal Exchange. Lead and zinc are certified as quality standards.
