Kazakhstan invites SCO countries to create new drugs data bank

ASTANA, August 27. /TASS/. Kazakhstan suggests that the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) should create a data bank for the new types of drugs, the Central Asian republic’s Prosecutor General Askhat Daulbayev said on Thursday. The Kazakh prosecutor general stressed that the problems arising from the emergence of new types of drugs are on the front burner for Kazakhstan and this comes as experts lack the samples of new synthetic drugs. "That’s why the work on tackling, countering the transit and spread of drugs is more efficient when the efforts of our states are combined," Daulbayev told a meeting of prosecutor generals from the SCO, a post-Soviet Eurasian security bloc. Daulbayev also said the channels of the United Nations should be used to create the data bank and to transfer the samples to each other, what will allow to "solve the challenging issues for our experts." The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a permanent regional association founded in Shanghai, China, on June 15, 2001. Its priority tasks include joint counteraction to terrorism and extremism; cooperation in education as well as in the energy, oil and gas, transport, communication and other spheres. At present, the SCO comprises Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India and Pakistan are expected to join the bloc next year. Read more
