Keris Strike Exercise Allows Malaysia, US To Update Military Procedures

JOHOR BAHARU (Johor, Malaysia), July 26 (Bernama) -- The 20th edition of the Keris Strike bilateral exercise is considered important to both Malaysia and the United States as both armies will be able to update all military operation procedures, especially in areas of warfare, humanitarian aid and technology. According to Third Infantry Division Commander, Major General Hasagaya Abdullah, updates were necessary action to be taken as tactics used in military operations had been changing with time. "The US has vast experience in warfare while our experience lies in humanitarian and disaster relief operations. "Therefore, we want to share whatever are applicable so that procedural and technological updates can be made at all times," he told reporters after launching the exercise at Ulu Tiram Camp here Monday. Hasagaya said the two-week exercise which would last until Aug 5, involved a total of 733 officers and members of the Malaysian Army and 558 personnel from the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) who were based in Hawaii. Meanwhile, US Army representative, Deputy Division Commander from the 25th Infantry Division, Colonel Stephen L.A Michael said the operation would not only help the US in enhancing strategic and tactical levels, but would also enable them to be prepared for humanitarian assistance and natural disasters. -- BERNAMA
