Kerman historical bath ruined by city wastewater

KERMAN, Oct. 01 (MNA) – A prominent historical relic in one of oldest allies of Kerman has fallen to ruin by the city wastewater and municipality mismanagement. The historical monument is Bath of Baghollah (Allah Garden) which, as Mehr News correspondent in Kerman reports, is not new to destruction; since years it has fallen into oblivion, and in recent decade, underground water infiltration has confounded the problem, accelerating the ruining of the historical bath. In the face of ruining of the bath, however, city authorities have directed blame on each other; the city’s Cultural Heritage Organization, the municipality, and the governorate are expected to cooperate in saving a historical building. Report says that similar buildings in city’s different points had been reconstructed and repaired in the recent past; however, the fortune had not turned to our historical bath of the story, and it has been abandoned to gradual ruin. In the past, the bath had been one of the most important public baths of Kerman during the Qajar rule, functioning both as a center for health and social mingling of different classes. Proximity to caravansaries introduced a horde of foreigners from different ethnicities, which was a strong reason to listing the bath in the national monuments list in 2005. Mohammad Iranmanesh, a local of the alley where the bath is located, told Mehr News that the alley was home to different baths which all were serving the public as late as few years ago; “with the advent of modern living accommodations, baths lost their function and were closed,” he adds, “currently, only a mosque has survived from the collection of the buildings where still people attend, but the bath has been destroyed,” which he attributes to the mismanagement in part of the city magistrates. “When the bath was closed, no authority came to save the building itself, leaving the path to gradual ruin by natural weathering,” says Iranmanesh, who is an octogenarian living for decades in the alley.
