Key Thai players in different groups join reconciliation discussion

BANGKOK, April 23 (TNA) - Politicians, different ideological political groups and academics in Thailand have attended a discussion to promote national reconciliation, as invited by the Center for Reconciliation and Reform. The discussion was held, amid tight security measures, at the Army Club on Bangkok's Vibhavadi Rangsit Road on Thursday, in which over 80 people from the concerned parties participated and General Chatchalerm Chalermsukh, Secretary-General of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) and Deputy Secretary-General of the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), listened to their views. The participants include Pheu Thai Party leading members, red-clad leading activists, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and his key party member Chamni Sakdiset, as well as academics, journalists and columnists. Meanwhile, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan told journalists that it was a brainstorming session, dismissing as groundless an accusation that the session would lead to more arrests or orders for cooperation with the military junta.
